DESCRIPTION:Survive First Aid is really pleased to partner up with Dave Enright from Evergreen Outdoor Centre Hakuba to provide Avalanche AST1 & CRS Courses at Mt Hotham this winter. \nThe 3 day course will combine the Companion Rescue Skills (CRS) course and the Avalanche Skills Training 1 (AST 1) courses together\, with 1 full day of classroom time and 2 days in the field. DESCRIPTION:An introduction for people who wish to learn to paddle either a kayak or a canoe on inland waterways. The course programme is designed with the aim of giving you confidence to enjoy the excitement and challenge of paddling. You will be shown and have time to practice the basic paddle strokes for moving your craft safely and efficiently.  While this course is intensive\, it is not physically demanding. As the course is practially oriented\, most of the course time will be spent paddling and practising paddle strokes.

SUMMARY:BLSA Advanced Bushwalking Leader Course
DESCRIPTION:Become an accredited Walk Leader with this nationally recognised course.  \nThis involves training in the more advanced skills which are relevant to longer walks in more rugged and isolated areas. \n\n– Maximum time for completion\, 18 months.\n– This programme aims at developing a high degree of skill and experience in leadership suitable for longer bushwalks\, including prolonged expeditions in remote and difficult mountain areas.\n\nThis course trains outdoor enthusiasts with experience and skills in bushwalking to a standard appropriate to lead groups of less experienced adults or dependent groups (including students) on bushwalking trips. \nOn completion\, the successful candidate is endorsed to lead walks: \n\n– Of extended journeys of a more demanding nature\n– In Remote & Mountainous Areas of South Eastern Australia\n– That can be off track in difficult conditions\n– Beyond a half day walk of emergency assistance\n– You will also require specific units that will need to be completed to enable Alpine leading.\n\nNo experience is implied in such specialised skills as mountaineering\, rockclimbing\, skiing\, etc. The certificate DOES NOT imply competence and capability in these specialised areas. \nEach candidate is allocated an Advisor\, an experienced bushwalker who assists in developing the candidate’s leadership skills. \nThe Advisor may also recommend that the candidate undertakes additional bushwalking experience before being assessed. \nAssessment includes:\nGeneral Mountain Training \nThe candidate participates in a peer-oriented advanced and difficult trip of at least five days duration in a remote arid mountainous area (or alpine)\, led by an Advanced Instructor. The trip could involve arid or alpine environments. \nInterim Training \nA Minimum of 14 Days Bushwalking Experience. To include at least: \n\n– 1 x 4-day walk in Central to Northern Flinders (north of Hawker)*\n– 1 x 4-day walk I the highland areas of the Eastern States or Tasmania.*\n* The trainee must fulfil a leadership role in at least one of these.\n– 2 x 3-day walks as leader\n\n      – The log of walks listed above must contain at least\n      – one walk in hot and dry conditions within the total program of experience\n\n\n\nWritten Assessment Papers \nWritten assessment papers consist of navigation\, incident response and route planning. \nPlease make an independent arrangement with your adviser to complete this or contact the office to arrange for another adviser to supervise your exam.
