Australian Adventure Activity Standard and Good Practice Guides pre-release

Posted on December 19, 2018

The Australian Adventure Activity Standard (AAAS) and the completed activity Good Practice Guide’s (GPG’s) have been published, prior to the official launch in September 2019. The pre-released documents are available from the australianaas.org.au website home page. http://australianaas.org.au/

Why pre-release?

The outdoor community has actively supported the development of the AAAS and GPG’s so the Steering Committee wanted to make the completed sections available as soon as possible.

Providers can use the pre-released documents to begin reviewing their activity systems well before the Australian AAS are adopted by all jurisdictions.

Official launch and adoption

The ‘official launch’ is planned for Sept 2019.

It is likely that adoption of the Australian AAS by all States and Territories would then occur early 2020. More detail on the adoption timeline will be released in due course.

What is being released?

The following completed documents are available now:

  • Australian Adventure Activity Standard (AAAS)
  • Core GPG (Common good practice for all activities)
  • Activity specific GPG’s:
    • Abseil & Climbing GPG
    • Bushwalking GPG
    • Camping GPG
    • Canyoning GPG
    • Cycling, Cycle Touring and Mt Biking GPG
    • Horse Trail Riding GPG
    • Inland water paddle-craft GPG (canoeing, kayaking, rafting & associated activities)

These can be downloaded from the australianaas.org.au website home

Still to come

The Challenge Courses GPG (low and high ropes) is nearing completion and will be available early in 2019.

Work has recently started on the following GPG’s:

  • Angling
  • Caving
  • Sea kayaking

These four GPG’s will be released at the official launch in September 2019.

Thanks to all the TWG members

The Steering Committee wishes to thank all the Technical Working Group (TWG) members for their work and contributions.

This project would not have been possible without the volunteer efforts of all the TWG members.

Information webinars – save the date

Two AAAS & GPG information webinars have been planned. This will cover a short briefing and a Q&A session. Save one of the following dates if you would like to join one of these webinars:

  • Tuesday 12 February 2019, 12.30pm – 1.30pm AEST
  • Wednesday 13 February 2019, 8.00pm – 9.00pm AEST

All the details will be announced in Jan 2019 via the Australian AAS newsletter and on the website news blog.

Regards
