Review update: The Independent Review Panel’s Final Safety Report has been published

You might remember back in January 2022, the Government commissioned a comprehensive Independent Review of the Domestic Commercial Vessel Safety Legislation. Outdoors SA has been supporting stakeholder engagement and advocating for a positive outcome for the sector.

The Independent Review Panel conducted extensive stakeholder consultation, including on its draft Interim Safety Report released in August 2022, prior to finalising its findings and recommendations.

The Review Panel’s finalised Safety Report can be found on the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Art’s webpage. The Review’s comprehensive background and documentation is also available on the DCV Review webpage.

The Safety Report explores the extent to which the National Law framework is currently fit for purpose, and the challenges in existing arrangements under the National Law. The Safety Report has been supplied to the Government for consideration, with a response and further industry consultation anticipated as part of this process.

The Review Panel has also considered matters relating to the delivery costs for the National System and future funding options. The Australian Transport Safety and Investigation Bodies Financial Sustainability Review, announced in the 2023–24 Budget, will now take into consideration the delivery costs for the National System and future funding options.
